The honest answer: we're figuring that out together, and on purpose. Right now Blake is our newest team member, full stop. He's spending time with the crew, sitting in on residential and commercial jobs, meeting the people who answer the phones and the people who are up on the roof in July. We're giving him room to learn the business before we lock him into a title. "He's been spending time with the team, learning different parts of the business, and gaining exposure to what it takes to grow a company," said NEXGEN co-founder Brandon Cornellier. "Right now, we're focused on giving him opportunities to learn and contribute where it makes sense. As he becomes more familiar with the business, we'll better understand where his strengths can create the most value." If that sounds like a wait-and-see approach, it is. We'd rather get it right than rush a press-release job title.

Blake didn't need a job. He needed the right one. "Retirement has been great. I've been able to spend a lot of time with my family, and that's been a huge blessing," Bortles said. "But I've realized it's time to get back out there, and my main priority was finding somewhere I could continue to grow and be part of a great team." Jacksonville has always felt like home to me, and it's important that I'm involved in the community where I live."
